Phil’s musical & theatrical experience includes:
- Grew up in a family that traveled and sang at churches and community events.
- Band, Choral, and Theatrical experience in High School and College.
- Briefly made his living as a professional musician, traveling with a self-accompanied vocal trio.
- Vocal soloist and ensemble performer in settings ranging from self accompanied to full band and orchestra.
- Solo performer for 30+ years – vocal, guitar, mandolin, harmonica, bass, penny whistle.
- Chorister and music director at Willow Spring Mennonite Church – 30 years.
- Community and professional drama roles include:
- Narrator in Joseph
- Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music
- Daddy Warbucks in Annie
- Melchior & Balthazar in separate runs of Amahl and The Night Visitors
- “Band”/Guitar – The Cotton Patch Gospel
- Caiaphas in Jesus Christ Superstar
Phil enjoyed shaving for the role "Daddy Warbucks"
Phil and about half of the instruments used in the CPG soundtrack.
Phil attended school at Illinois Valley Community College, Goshen College and Lewis University. While declared majors along the way included engineering and music education, he holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Business Administration with an emphasis in Healthcare Management. He is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator and has worked since 2001 as the administrator of Greenfield Retirement Home in Princeton IL.
