CPG Food Project is a ministry of Willow Spring Mennonite Church. This ministry was begun by Phil Kaufmann as an outlet for his musical and theatrical interests, to creatively share the Gospel, and to help raise awareness and funds to fight hunger.

The concept to do the show as a “one-man musical” evolved from several frustrations. First was the lack of local musicians interested in the show. Second was the insecurity that even if musicians could be rallied, their long-term commitment to the project would always be in jeopardy.
After contacting the licensing company, it was clear that a sponsoring entity would be needed to access the materials and provide organizational support. Since Willow Springs Mennonite Church has been an active supporter of the local food pantry and of Mennonite Central Committee’s programs impacting national and world hunger, Phil approached the congregation in the fall of 2010 about sponsoring the CPG Food Project. The congregation voted to support the formation of the new ministry and agreed to provide some seed money and financial oversight and accountability.
After strong positive response from initial shows, a 10 member team was assembled to provide ongoing oversight, guidance and accountability for Phil, Pam and the Project.
During CPGs opening 2011 season, the show was performed 30 times, raising over $33,000. 50% of these funds were distributed to local food programs, with the balance being sent to Why Hunger and Mennonite Central Committee to address national and world hunger efforts.
